Highs & Lows

August 31, 2017

The seasons of our journey here on this earth consist of highs and lows, heartbreak and joy, failures and successes, various antonyms lived out in real life. No matter where we find ourselves today, it is an opportunity to first recognize our Heavenly Fatherís presence through it all and His unfailing love and faithfulness always! Second, may we embrace this adventure called life at each continuum of the spectrum. There is growth, reflection, relevance, and usefulness for each stage of the road we travel. Donít believe the lies that you have to have it all together to be used by God! Donít believe that if you struggle you must be doing something wrong! Donít believe that God is finished with you! Iím my worst critic, but oh so thankful, that my Abba, breathes truth into the lies I tell myself and whispers His unfailing love into my Ďnot good enoughí moments! Below are some excerpts from my prayer journal as I allow my Heavenly Father to use Scripture to speak through my highs and lows:

Dear Abba,

{Excerpt One}
What do you do when my heart is broken with discouragement and loneliness that brings me to tears all too often? How do You deal with me, your wayward child, seeking and yet not finding immediately the answer? How do You feel about me continuously getting it wrong --- desperately seeking love, acceptance and approval from others? How I long to seek You, Your face, Your love, Your truth more than anything, but fall short so often as I acquiesce to my insecurities, desperation, and sadness.

O, but You oh Lord are faithful even when we arenít! When I erect the walls to protect myself, You scale them to shout that I am loved and accepted by You! Psalm 143:8 states that each morning brings news of Your love, Your unfailing love, and therefore, I can put my trust in You. For You will show me the way I should go, for I lift my soul to You!

{Excerpt Two}
It seems like I always return to the places in my mind where I struggle to let go. I battle with the fear of what could happen, the frustration with not being able to control the outcome in a favorable directionÖ I believe this is why You ask us to take captive every thought, making it obedient to You (II Corinthians 10:5). You admonish us to think on whatever is true, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). You remind us to pray continually so our mind is redirected to You --- the source of life, our stronghold and refuge, constant companion, patient teacher, everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace!

{Excerpt Three}
When we put our life and the lives of those we love in Your hands, You mold us like clay, creating a beautiful masterpiece --- because although we arenít there yet --- You have given us hope that He who began a good work in us will see it to completion (Philippians 1:6). You give us hope that is firm and secure (Hebrews 6:19)--- so no matter if we are hard pressed on each side, we arenít crushed; no matter if life circumstances perplex us, we will not give in to desperation; even though we may be persecuted for our beliefs, we know You, Abba, will never abandon us! Lifeís circumstances will strike us down, but You will never allow them to destroy us! (II Corinthians 4:8-9)

{Excerpt Four}
My hope is found in You alone; all other ground is truly sinking sand. Your unfailing love wraps me in warmth and safety, bringing comfort. Your love truly upholds me and lasts forever --- through all my highs and lows! (Read the Psalms)

May you open yourself to the truth that your Creator is speaking to you right in the midst of lifeís storms, heartbreaks, disillusionment, peace, victories, and joys. In a life that is full of change, our Abba is the only thing that does not change. He is a constant --- constant love, faithfulness, mercy, forgiveness --- an endless list of consistency in lives marked by inconsistency. My soul clings to you, Abba Father!

Amen!
